Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance?

Counseling and Health Innovations is an out-of-network, fully licensed mental health provider in the state of Texas. Most, if not all, insurance companies directly reimburse the client for services received. We will furnish clients with a receipt of service that can be used to acquire insurance reimbursement (if applicable). However, the rate and amount is determined by one's own personal insurance policy. A receipt for services will include: 1) date of service; 2) your payment amount; 3) DSM-IV diagnostic code; 4) insurance code (CPT Code) for type of session. To find out what your out-of-network coverage is call your insurance provider and ask them: "What is my out-of-network coverage for mental health?" They will let you know what your benefits are and you can go from there. Often they will tell you a percentage of usual and customary charges. You will want to ask them what is usual and customary.

What are the costs to see a therapist?

Counseling and Health Innovations offers treatment at a variety of costs to fit your needs. We are an out-of-network provider and can assist you in filing with your insurance company. Please review our insurance policy. The following options are available

What is an Intern?

An intern is a therapist that has his/her beginning licenses for the state of Texas. They have completed all their class work in the field of counseling, and they have done 300 plus hours in a practicum where they do and learn a variety of counseling skills. They have also completed a grueling state board to get their temporary licenses. They must complete 3000 hours while being supervised by a licensed supervisor. Here at Counseling and Health innovation Dr. Steven Vazquez is a licensed supervisor and he hand selects his interns. He requires additional training up and above what the intern already has. He meets weekly to discuss the needs of each of the clients and how to progress on for ultimate care in their treatment.

How many sessions will it take to resolve my problems?

In most cases an evaluation is conducted within the first two sessions and then a treatment plan will be developed that is custom tailored for each person. This will provide us enough information to predict a course of treatment and an estimate of the number of sessions necessary to achieve your goals. With our approach we have resolved severe life-long depression in as few as six sessions and in more complicated cases much longer.

Can you help me get off psychiatric medications?

We routinely help people acquire relief of the symptoms for which psychiatric medications are targeted. We ask that your doctor collaborate with us in order to re-evaluate a possible reduction of dosage or elimination of psychiatric medications altogether. Most people do not realize that brain chemistry can be changed through the use of interpersonal counseling as well as medication.
